Fiddling Around

Goldie and her little violin buddy had a fun time between classes at Violin Camp this summer. They loved meeting and passing the time by playing together. Here is a little clip of them "fiddling around":

They also think it is a fun "tradition"(2 years now) to go to Artic Circle for lunch one of the days durring the week. Here they are enjoying their delicious lunch:

And playing on the stuff... they only had one minute to do this:

Playing with Goldie's Locks

Mama LOVES to do hair! In fact when she was younger it was a toss up as to weather she would become a teacher or a hair stylist. If she was not teaching some little unsuspecting kid out under the tree, then she was doing somebody's hair. Even her brothers and the dog used to fall victim to her hair doing schemes! A little sister would have helped her in her need to comb, but alas, it never came to pass. And then one day...

SHE WAS BLESSED WITH A DAUGHTER!!!!

Hooray! All her hair dreams were coming true! There was just one little problem.... GOLDIE was BALD!!!
Lucky for Mama (and Goldie if truth be told) her baldness did not last forever! Whew! In fact, the opposite has happened, and Goldie has more hair than even Mama knows what to do with sometimes.
A few weeks ago Mama asked Goldie how she wanted her hair, and Goldie said, "What can you do?" Mama went on to list the different things she could do with her hair, and then Goldie had a brilliant idea! She said, "Mom why don't we take a picture of all the different hairstyles we like so that we can choose from those when we are doing my hair?" WOW! What an ingenious idea! So, we started taking pictures and now we are adding them to our blog so that we might be able to look at them to help us decide how to do Goldie's locks. Here they are:

This is a rope braid, and is a fairly new idea for Mama. She learned it from one of her student's parents.
This culry-do is one of Mama's favorites, but time only allows us to do this one once a year for MayDay. But Goldie is really talented in that these curls will last for several days after the actual event.

This "do" has only happened twice in Goldie's life. Once in a while Mama gets a "wild hair" and decides to do this one, and it cures her for a few years!! Whew! It's a great "do" to do when Goldie is going somewhere without Mama for a while. Then she doesn't need anybody to do her hair!

Here is what happened after thar hairdo!! EEEEKKK!!

One French braid down the back is always a nice way to go.

Down long with a headband is a nice after-braid look.
The "Cob-Web" is one of our favorites! It lasts a LONG time, and we can even wash her hair with it in. Sometimes Mama calls this the Geneology Hair-do because it splits off like a geneology chart.

This is the quick-do we like to do after washing the golden locks. This keeps things somewhat under control. Here is our all time favorite! The zig zag braids. Mama is getting really good at this one. It is a nice cool one for summer time.

Alterniscapes Tour 2009

A couple of months ago, Papa was contacted by someone at the USU extension office and asked if he would be willing to be a part of the Alterniscapes Tour this summer. He had never heard of this before, but learned that it is like the Parade of Homes, but in the garden areas. Of course Papa thought that this would be great, so he agreed to be a part of it all. He worked very hard to get our yard in the best condition possible for this tour. Mama was a bit worried that the unfinished part of the yard would not be so "cool", but Papa reassured her that nobody's yard is ever finished and just because we did not have grass did not mean that we had nothing to share. He was right! People loved what they saw! They took pictures, asked questions, and raved about all the detail that has gone into the yard and showed excitement for what is to come. Papa had a ball!! He was in seventh heaven showing off all his hard work. Here is the page from the brochure about our yard:

Here is what the brochure says: "The Anderson's residence utilizes the yard to not only grow underutilized landscape plants, but features a variety of well designed areas for kitchen gardening. In the design, the kitchen garden is not placed in the back corner, but instead incorporated into the whole of the landscape. Included in the landscape are fruit trees, berry patches, raised bed, and rock gardens. There is also an innovative compost operation and other unique opportunities to learn new methods of gardening."

Papa made up a detailed map which was handed out to everyone that toured the garden. Mama was also highly involved in this tour. She got on her trusty computer and made signs (about 120-ish) for every one of the plants that were too small to show up on the map. They added a lot to the yard and many people appreciated that they could then know what each of the plants were around the yard. Many commented that we had the best labled yard of them all!! Here are a few pictures that mama took durring the tour:

Our Spring Flowers

One of the Young Women in our ward saw how beautiful our flowers were in the spring, and asked if she could come over and take some pictures for her photography class. Here is what she captured:

Papa doesn't just plant any old bulb! He finds the most beautiful ones that he can. Our yard looks like Holland in the spring!

Fiddle Concert April 2009

What is Goldie Missing? Where is her BOW?? Everybody knows that a true violinist cannot fiddle without a BOW!! It seems that Goldie had done a good deed and lent her bow to someone earlier in the concert, and when it was her turn, alas, she had no bow! But never fear, another one was located and the show went on! Whew!

Also included on this video is the braiding of the Maypole. We have not quite figured out how to edit our videos properly. Oh well, enjoy it all or just tune in for the parts you would like to see.

Here are some pics of the Fiddle Concert:

Rainy, Rainy, May Day

Another May Day has come and gone and we can hardly believe that this is Goldie's fourth time to braid the Maypole! This year was a rainy one, and we held it in the Stake Center. (Thank goodness! One year they danced in a snowstorm!!) We just love this sweet little tradition in this quaint little town that we call home. Here are some of the highlilghts of our day:
Here is Goldie on her way to May Day.

Mama made her dress, curled her hair, and sent her on her way!!

Goldie and her partner. This girl is actually in Mama's class this year! This is the first time Goldie has been able to dance with one of Mama's students! They both thought this was pretty cool!

After everything is said and done, the girls unbraid the Maypole. This is VERY seroius business! We can't stop to smile... OH NO!

It is so much fun to share the day with good buddies!

Merry, Merry, May Day!

School Pictures

Here they are! The new school pictures for 2008-09. Poor Papa doesn't get to have his picture taken. Doesn't Goldie look grown up? What happened to our little baby? Now she is Mama's grown up little buddy. Wow!
